Why We Built SportsClinicFinder — Canada's Sports Clinic Directory

Physiotherapy clinic interior — SportClinicFinder Canada's sports clinic directory

Canada has over 20,000 registered physiotherapy clinics. Finding the right one — one that treats your specific injury, offers the specialty you need, and is actually in your city — was harder than it had any right to be.

That gap is what SportsClinicFinder was built to close.

What is SportsClinicFinder? SportsClinicFinder is Canada's only purpose-built sports clinic directory — 13,447 clinics across 522 cities and 13 provinces, searchable by city, injury type, specialty, and Google rating. Free for patients to search. Free for clinic owners to claim their listing.

Where This Started

I run TapeGeeks — a Canadian athletic tape brand that supplies kinesiology tape, athletic tape, and wellness products to sports clinics across the country. Our customers are physiotherapists, chiropractors, athletic therapists, and clinic owners. People working in Canadian sports medicine every day.

The thing we kept hearing: patients weren't finding them.

Not because the clinics weren't good. Because the discovery infrastructure for Canadian sports clinics was genuinely broken. The Canadian Physiotherapy Association's clinic locator returned a 404 error. Google Maps surfaces everything from nail salons to law offices when you search "physiotherapy near me." The most prominent health directories are built around physicians, not sports clinics, and charge clinic owners $179–359 USD per month for a basic listing with no guarantees.

We looked for a solution to recommend to our clinic customers. There wasn't one worth recommending. So we built it.

What SportsClinicFinder Actually Is

SportsClinicFinder is a directory built specifically for Canadian sports and rehabilitation clinics. Every clinic has a dedicated profile page with their services, location, contact details, Google rating, and — where available — a direct booking link.

The directory currently covers:

  • 13,447 clinics across Canada
  • 522 cities — from Vancouver Island to St. John's
  • 13 provinces and territories
  • 17 specialty types — physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy, athletic therapy, sports medicine, acupuncture, shockwave therapy, dry needling, custom orthotics, kinesiology, osteopathy, naturopathy, pelvic floor physiotherapy, concussion management, occupational therapy, chiropody, and kinesiology taping

Patients can search by city, filter by specialty or injury type, sort by Google rating, and filter for clinics that accept insurance. Finding a 4.5-star rated sports medicine clinic in Kelowna that does shockwave therapy takes about 30 seconds. Before SportsClinicFinder, that search didn't exist.

No ads. No pay-to-rank. A solo practitioner in Sudbury gets the same listing quality as a multi-location clinic in downtown Toronto.

Who It's Built For

Patients Looking for the Right Clinic

Most people searching for a sports clinic don't need "physiotherapy near me." They need someone who treats runners, or a pelvic floor specialist, or a clinic that does dry needling for a stubborn hip flexor injury without a six-week wait.

SportsClinicFinder is built around that specificity. Injury filters — knee, shoulder, ankle, back, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, IT band, and more — connect patients directly to clinics that treat those conditions. The specialty filters narrow to exactly the type of care you need. The rating sort surfaces the highest-quality clinics first, not the ones that paid to be there.

Clinic Owners Who Want to Be Found

If you run a sports clinic in Canada, there's a reasonable chance you're already in the directory. The initial dataset was built from public health records, provincial licensing registries, and verified business data.

Claiming your listing is free. Once you claim it, you can update your services, add a direct booking link, and ensure the information patients see is accurate. Premium listing features — enhanced profiles, priority placement, lead tracking — are in development for clinic owners who want to actively grow their patient base through the directory.

The pitch is simple: patients are already using SportsClinicFinder to find clinics in your city. Make sure yours shows up correctly.

Practitioners and Industry Partners

SportsClinicFinder is a TapeGeeks initiative — we're not hiding that. TapeGeeks supplies kinesiology tape, athletic tape, and wellness products to sports clinics across Canada. The directory grew out of our relationships with clinic owners and the recognition that their patient discovery problem was real and unsolved.

If you're a practitioner interested in TapeGeeks wholesale pricing, or want to discuss your clinic's listing, the connection is intentional and the conversation is open. TapeGeeks.com is the other half of what we do.

Why This Gap Existed

Canada's public healthcare system is well-designed for primary care. It was not designed for the private sports and rehabilitation sector, which operates almost entirely outside provincial coverage. Most provinces don't cover outpatient physiotherapy under public health insurance. The result: a $3+ billion annual private sector with no dedicated discovery layer.

Patients rely on word of mouth, outdated Google searches, and luck. Clinic owners invest in clinical quality and get minimal return on visibility. SportsClinicFinder is the infrastructure that should have existed a decade ago.

What We're Building Next

  • Clinic claim campaign: Direct outreach to the top 500 clinics to verify listings and add booking links
  • Expanded booking links: 708 clinics currently have direct booking URLs — growing through the claim process
  • City × injury pages: Dedicated pages for "knee injury clinics in Ottawa," "shockwave therapy Calgary," and hundreds of specific searches
  • Premium listings: Enhanced profiles for clinic owners investing in patient acquisition through the directory

Frequently Asked Questions

Is SportsClinicFinder free to use?

Yes — completely free for patients. Searching, filtering by city, specialty, injury type, or insurance, and viewing any clinic profile costs nothing. Clinic owners can also claim and update their listing for free. Premium listing features for enhanced clinic visibility are in development, but the core directory will always be free to search.

How do I find a sports clinic near me?

Go to the search page and type your city. You can then filter by specialty — physiotherapy, chiropractic, shockwave therapy, dry needling, and 13 others — by injury type, by minimum Google rating, or by whether the clinic accepts insurance. Results sort by rating by default, so the highest-quality clinics in your area appear first.

How is SportsClinicFinder different from Google Maps?

Google Maps returns every business in a category — including clinics with outdated information and listings that haven't been verified in years. SportsClinicFinder is built exclusively for sports and rehabilitation clinics, with specialty filters, injury filters, insurance filters, and verified profiles. Finding a 4.5-star dry needling clinic in your city takes about 30 seconds. That specific search doesn't exist on Google Maps.

Does SportsClinicFinder cover all Canadian provinces and territories?

Yes — all 13 provinces and territories are covered, from British Columbia to Newfoundland and Labrador. The directory includes 522 cities. Urban centres like Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary have hundreds of listed clinics. Smaller cities typically have 10–30 depending on population. If clinics are missing in your city, you can submit them through the Add a Clinic form.

How do I claim my clinic listing?

Find your clinic using the search page, then click "Claim This Listing" on your profile. You'll verify your contact details and confirm the services your clinic offers. Once verified, you can update your information, add a direct booking link, and ensure everything patients see is accurate. The claim process is free and takes about 3 minutes.

Can I filter for clinics that accept insurance?

Yes. There's a dedicated "Accepts Insurance" filter on every city and search results page. In Canada, most extended health benefit plans cover physiotherapy, chiropractic, and massage therapy. The filter shows only clinics that have confirmed they accept direct billing or extended benefits — saving you the phone call to ask.

What if my clinic isn't listed on SportsClinicFinder?

Use the Submit a Clinic form. Provide the clinic name, city, province, and services offered — we research and add verified listings within 3–5 business days. Clinic owners can also reach out directly if they need their listing added or corrected quickly.

How were so many clinics added to the directory?

The initial dataset was compiled from public health records, provincial licensing registries, and verified business data across all 13 Canadian provinces and territories. Clinic owners can claim their listing at any time to update or correct information. Missing clinics can be submitted via the Add a Clinic form — we review and add verified submissions within 3–5 business days.

If you're a patient who can't find the clinic you're looking for, submit a request — we add verified clinics within 3–5 business days. If you're a clinic owner, find your listing and claim it free.
