Frequently Asked Questions — Royal Care Physio Clinic (formerly The Physio Clinic)
Do you offer direct billing to insurance companies?
We work with most major medical insurance plan providers and are happy to help with any insurance questions. Prior to your initial visit, we contact your insurance company to verify your benefits so we can inform you of your specific coverage before treatment begins.
Do I need a doctor's referral to book an appointment?
In Ontario, you do not need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist, massage therapist, or most of our practitioners. However, some extended health insurance plans may require a referral for reimbursement, so we recommend checking with your provider. Our team can help verify your benefits before your first visit.
What types of injuries and conditions do you treat?
We treat a wide range of conditions including sports injuries, post-surgical recovery, motor vehicle accident injuries such as whiplash and soft tissue strains, chronic and acute pain, back problems, sciatica, arthritis, tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder, and repetitive stress injuries. Whether you are a competitive athlete or simply staying active, we create tailored rehab plans to get you back to what you love.
What can I expect during my first appointment?
Your first appointment is an initial assessment lasting at least 60 minutes. Your physiotherapist will test your strength, flexibility, function, gait, and reflexes, and may use palpation to assess the affected area. They will then diagnose your condition, outline a treatment plan, and provide a general timeline for your recovery. Feel free to ask questions throughout the session.
How does shockwave therapy work and what does it treat?
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-energy sound waves to create tiny micro-injuries in damaged tissue, triggering your body's natural healing response and boosting blood flow to the area. It is commonly used to treat plantar fasciitis, jumper's knee, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, shoulder tendinitis, and shin splints. Sessions last 10 to 20 minutes, and most patients can continue normal activities between treatments.
